Splitting Cards in Blackjack

Splitting cards is another feature in online Blackjack that makes the game even more appealing. Like the double bet, the players have to double their initial stake. When playing in an online casino the player will be prompted when to split the cards in Blackjack. A decision has to be made. If a player decides to go ahead, they need to hit the split button on the screen and the online casino will place the bet.

There are many strategies regarding splitting cards, none of them are sure-fire winners but there are a few tips to pick up along the way. It’s always best to know the best and worst splits in Blackjack but going with a gut instinct, taking a few chances and enjoying the game is the best bet.

Firstly, players should always split aces. Splitting aces are different to other splits. Players are allowed only one card and no blackjacks. When splitting aces, the player is in a fantastic position of getting 21 (Blackjack) because there are more 10s and pictures available than any other cards.

In Blackjack the player needs to be aware that splitting certain cards gives a strong advantage and others not. Firstly, the player needs to be aware of the dealer’s card. There is no use in just splitting cards for the sake of it; this would only lead to the player losing money. The lower the dealer's card the better.

Splitting 10's and pictures in Blackjack would be a foolish split. The player already has the score of 20 and in a much better position than the dealer, depending on what card he / she has. Odds state that the player will win so splitting pictures or 10’s is a bad move in Blackjack.

Splitting 9's depends again on what the dealer has. If the dealer holds a 7, I would suggest the player stands with 18. The odds say the dealer will draw a 10 or a picture and score 17. If the dealer holds anything lower than a 7, I would split the cards. It’s a good bet.  If the dealer has a high card, then the player should keep what they have.

The player should always split 8's. Holding 16 in a hand is the worst score a player could get if the dealer has a high card. At least with holding two 8's the player has a second chance at getting 18 in both their hands. If the player had 16 with any other combination, then they would have to draw a card if the dealer has a high card. If the dealer has a low card then standing on 16 with two 8's would still be a good bet but they have the opportunity to win more money so they should go for it.

The player should split 7’s up to the dealer holding a 7 and split 6's, up to the dealer holding a 6. It's quite easy to remember.

The player should never split 5's in Blackjack. The player holds the score of 10 so they have the chance to double up their bet. They shouldn’t waste that opportunity by splitting them into 2 hands. The odds say the player will draw 10s, which means they score 15 in both hands, then what do you do, especially if the dealer holds a high card.

If the dealer holds a low card below 6 then splitting 2s, 3s, and 4s are a good bet. The player has a good chance of getting a double out of those cards, which increases their chances plus if they draw a 10 then they can stand with what they have and let the dealer draw the 10s and go bust.
It’s only through my years of experience that I can give these tips. They don’t always work, nothing is written in stone when it comes to playing online Blackjack or any other game but I’m sure it will enhance peoples Blackjack enjoyment.
